ATINET (Austrian Technology Impulse Network)

2006-2008

Goal of the project was to show that public funding of the first steps of a technology intensive innovation processes actually promotes companies to raise their engagement in research and technology oriented tasks. It could be shown that this supports becomes self-reinforcing for the respective companies. It also proved that the companies considerably raised their own portion of funding.

The entire innovation process from product development to the introduction to the market was devided into modules, based on the expertise of the author in industry. In this way a step by step and therefore risk minimizing entrance to technology intensive development projects was made possible. The target group was small and medium sized enterprises, producing industry as well as companies providing production related services.

Smart Textile Platform

since 2006

In the context of the ATINET project a group of textile technology companies formed and voiced their interest for creating a platform allowing the organisation of events, project planning and multi-disciplinary smart textiles research projects by integration of micro electronics and micro system technology (sensors and actuator).

The platform is now operative and managed by the ÖTI (Institut für Ökologie, Technik und Innovation). In addition to the OGMS and the Institute for Sensor and Actuator Systems at the Vienna University of Technology, the trade association of clothing industry, the trade association of textile industry as well as the trade association of electronics industry (FEEI) are partners in the project.

The online platform is an exchange tool and meeting place for companies wanting to find new products. The smart textile platform informs interested companies in the clothing and textile industry about possibilities to improve products, processes and services with the help of the integration of technology. Further on it is the goal to support active companies in the adaptation and development of their new ideas.

Regional Technology Days

2007

The Technology Days have the goal to disseminate information about the application possibilities of new technologies, processes and services to companies. At the same time it is possible to have (confidential) meetings with experts about the issues of the companies in these areas.

The strategy of the project is to implement the model of Technology Days successfully held in Switzerland and Germany also in Austria. The events were held in Leobersdorf, Stainz and Wr. Neustadt. Lectures of Prof. Detter and presentations of other experts informed SMEs about trends and developments in the use of new technologies as well as presented contact parters in the respective technology fields.

The Technology Days were held at the regional technology respectively start-up centers. The invitations were sent by the local politicians (mayor, regional politicians) and local media introduced and reported from the event with articles and press releases.

CEPIT (Central European Park for Innovative Technology)

CEPIT is a project that is in the planning stage. It aims to develop a science and technology park in a strategically beneficial location in a district of the city of Bratislavas (Vajnory) which is in the central European location between Prag, Vienna and Budapest. Prof. Detter developed the CEPIT project concept for the technology park in his function as scientific and technology consultant.

CEAMAT (Center of Excellence for Applied Manufacturing Technologies)

2007-2008

Reseach Promotion Initiative for SMEs at the FH JOANNEUM in Graz

The PTO program of study - Production Technology and Organisation - at the University of Applied Science Joanneum in Graz is offering a dual trace program that is in high demand by Styrian SMEs. In cooperation with the OGMS an ATI NET module with focus on production and process technology for a sustainable production was developed.

CEAMAT applies the processes of problem identification and solution finding that were developed in the two year ATINET project where new technologies were successfully introduced to SMEs. The PTO partner network consists of 120 companies. This network is responsible for supplying access and information about funding programs and for connecting competencies and services of consulting companies, educational institutions and research organisations in Styria.

SiLu (Air-borne Security)

Project in the framework of the Austrian Research Promotion Program for Security – KIRAS (2008-2009)

Austrian citizens have a right to enjoy effective protection and unhindered functional capability of critical infrastructure. This is also applied to security aspects of climate and environment. The realisation of this requirement will be demonstrated with the project "Air-borne Security", this means the use of air-borne technology including the respective information and knowledge management.

The goal of this study is to find an integrated approach for an intellectual property cluster "Air-borne Security". It is planned to show possibilities for establishing an effective national and internationally competitive industry and research focus where government and industry, science and research in Austria are connected through a network to better coordinate and cooperate with partners as requirement for an economically efficient cooperation on an international level.

It is the core task to give an overview about the possibilities of raising security, surveillance, reporting and fast reaction for the defense of potential threats and accidents. Technology wise this mainly means the development of mounting units that are in motion or stationary in the air.

Concept for a research, technology and innovation policy instrument for the Austrian Machine and Metal Ware Industry with the aim to boost their innovation potential in the respective industry sectors

It was the goal of the study to compile the basics for the development of a R&D technlogy transfer institution for the Machine and Metal Ware Industry.

The performance moduls developed (see folder for details) were validated and rated as important and essential in an opinion poll among the companies. This confirmed that the companies regard such an institution necessary for the industry specific support, in form of funding contributions, needed to undertake and improve innovation processes in the organisations.

At the beginning of the year 2010 the institution „Innovatives Metall Forschungs- und Technologietransfer GmbH“ will be established as a subsidiary of AustriaTech (National Organisation for technology policy measures) to activate the willingness to raise innovation and research activities of the companies in this industry.

Automotive Industry

The Austrian Automotive Supplier Industry is mainly related to and positioned in the Machine and Metal Ware Industry [MMI], the Electronics Industry [EEI] and the Chemistry and Textile Industry. Depending on the turnover in the automotive sector the companies were more or less affected by the financial crisis.

The OGMS developed a concept to secure the survival of the numerous highly innovative and high tech companies through the support of research funding and qualification measures. Based on international secondary research scenarios were created  to understand future trends and general developments in the automotive sector. This report is an important input for the companies to be able to adopt a development strategy with knowhow, product development and qualifications aligned with those trends.
